73 Vogue style questions – Tag!

‘A project is never finished it is just forced to be released’

Lately I have been in a bit of a slump. Summer is coming to an end and I’ve struggled to maintain motivation in these Autumn evenings. I’ve had 3 blog posts written just awaiting photos, 3 videos awaiting product shots and final edits, and a thousand ideas swirling around my head. I’ve been lost in too many ideas that I haven’t actually finished anything. So when Steph tagged me in this post it really kicked me into gear that I need to get back to what I love, and this is the perfect post to just write to over a cup of green tea and binge-watching The Good Place to celebrate season 4!

1. What is your usual Starbucks order?

Soy Caramel Frappuccino – Coffee blend of course

2. What does your workstation look like right now?

A MESS!

3. All-time favourite food?

Mashed potato.

4. Favourite author?

I have to admit i’m not a massive reader, this is mainly due to time – I do however love Audiobooks and podcasts so I can get my fix on those busy days.

As generic as it sounds though my favourite series has to be Harry Potter for Nostalgia, whether J.K.Rowling is my favourite author is another question, but the series means so much to me and has got me through so much it belongs here.

5. What do you think of open relationships?

I don’t judge anyones choices as long as they aren’t hurting anyone. I’m not sure they’re necessarily for me, but I have no strong feelings either way.

6. Favourite video game?

Oh wow this is a category I could talk about forever. Pokemon will always be up there, but what really got me into console gaming was Kingdom Hearts and the Fallout franchise!

7. Guilty pleasure treat?

Pick n Mix – an easy get out so I don’t need to pick one thing 😉

8. Favourite film?

When I was a child and it thundered we would always order a chinese and watch TV, there was always a film that happened to be on that was about mythical puppet goblins and I vividly remembered a bog. For years I tried to describe this film to my parents asking what it was and I got to the point where I really thought I’d created this mythical world myself in a dream, they convinced me my memories weren’t real. Years later, and I mean about 10 years later I finally discovered the mind-bending world that kept me comfortable through the storms. Can you guess what it is? Hands down my favourite movie is Labyrinth.

Honorable mention for Forgetting Sarah Marshall which is my go-to sweatpants, pizza and banish the tears movie I watch as an adult! I can watch this on repeat and never get bored and it always puts me in a good mood.

21. What do you like to collect?

When I was a child I was obsessed with collecting ‘pretty’ stones. I’d collect them from places i’d visit, beaches, castles etc. They would have to be nice ones though not just random ones.

Yes of course!

36. What’s the biggest surprise you ever got?

It’ll have to be the time my parents tried to trick me into saying they were taking me on a holiday to Glasgow, I knew something was up when we didn’t start driving on the motorway and as we arrived at the airport they told me we were getting a plane to Glasgow, still very suspicious I entered the airport and when we got in the queue to book onto the plane going to Spain they couldn’t really keep it from me any longer.

37. What’s a surprise that’s made you cry?

Oh god, i’m so bad with quick thinking! There’s got to be something I just can’t think!

Ok, so since I moved I barely get to see my mum, we chat a lot on the phone but one weekend I was due to visit and managed to leave work early cutting a 6 hour long rush-hour traffic journey down to 4 hours. I text her saying I was still at work when I was actually 10 minutes away and the look on her face when I walked through the door was priceless ❤

Something random or adventurous.

51. The worst thing to do on a first date?

The cinema! Why would I want to sit in a dark room not talking with someone I don’t know

I actually went on a date to the cinema with a guy once, I’m not sure if it classes as a first date because we always used to see each other on nights out but it kind of was our first official date. Either way we sat down, his roommate and girlfriend came in laughing and sat at the back and started throwing popcorn at us, it’s hard to believe I was about 19 and he was 24, he then offered to take me, a vegetarian, to KFC. It was a pretty bad date.

52. What’s the funniest pickup line a guy can use on a girl?

Might sound boring but I hate cheesy pickup lines, natural humour all the way

I grew up reading manga more than comics, but I don’t think the fantastic four has ever been done justice in Hollywood. I actually had ‘read a comic book series’ in my 101 in 1001 list but I think I bumped it for something. May just have to be something I do regardless.

Self-care is more than just retail therapy

Self-care is more than just retail therapy.

Self-care is more than just lighting a candle next to a bubblebath.

Self-care is more than cuddling up with a relaxing cup of coffee and a netflix binge,

but it’s a good place to start…

Today i’m facing something that I haven’t faced in years. something that absolutely terrifies me. The dentist. This didn’t used to terrify me, in fact I used to have a very good relationship with my old dentist, a relationship built over 24 years, and I think that’s why i’m having such trouble now admitting I need to find a new one. It’s been about 3 years now since I actually went to a dentist. This is because once my family dentist retired he was replaced by a someone who caused my mother a lot of pain and money with costly mistakes and bad dental work. Due to this it’s taken me too long to finally admit to myself I can no longer pass this off, in fact had I visited a dentist sooner rather than being scared, I probably could have saved more pain and a worse outcome in the end. Irony.

I have to have 2 teeth removed, my back wisdom tooth which has broken in half, I am not bothered about this removal, my other one, I am. I feel having a tooth out in the middle of a set will make me ugly even though my mother is convincing me that no one will see it as it is at the back. I know i’m being materialistic here, but i’ve always prided myself on my teeth, I brush regularly, don’t eat sweets or fizzy drinks. But these things happen, therefore having bubblebaths, buying clothes etc isn’t the kind of self care that I need. Being an adult means self care is making hard decisions, had I gone to a dentist earlier I could have potentially saved this tooth, and in the long run that kind of self-care is more beneficial to cheap thrills of happiness and a lighter wallet.

In retrospect I realise i’ve missed plenty of opportunity. Opportunity to travel, to work, opportunity to look after myself in a better way and be content with my lifestyle choices. This is because I was scared and didn’t know that making a sequence of small tough decisions lead to overall happiness in the end. I’m still scared, albeit a small percentage of what I was, and this has given me the confidence boost that i’ve needed to really go out there and become who I should be. I now visit the doctor when I need to, admitting not everything can be cured with a lemon and honey tea, I make phone calls which for years absolutely petrified me, and i’m going to the dentist today alone and afraid. But its something I am going to do, something I have to come to terms with.

Even though the title of this is about retail therapy and me talking about how it is not self love and self help, I have in fact been out this morning and spent an insane amount of money on clothes, makeup and games. Partly I do need this, the colder months are coming and I am not prepared for them and my wardrobe needs a very good revamp. I also treat myself to  some beauty buys, biotin and a game I’ve wanted to play for a long time.

This veiled happiness will only last a short time though, true happiness isn’t within the clothes that I buy. Once they’re packed away and I don’t see those shopping bags filled to the brim with treats and goodies i’ll realise that its just another thing that I possess. But on the other hand when you are in new clothes, you do your makeup well and you walk with a new set of confidence it emanates from you and you become more positive, in turn rewarding yourself with a passive type of self-love.

I wanted to get myself some treats for tonight so I can go home, cuddle up with a good book, play some games, light some candles, get into some fresh new pyjamas and cuddle up with my cats. Although retail therapy isn’t the key to self-love, and throwing away money won’t make you feel better, if you adapt the right attitude, it can be a good help.

A Belated August Favourites

Screenshot (36)Walking/Running – Clearing my head throughout August was a big deal and with the beautiful weather I found myself going out every morning at 6.30am. It was the perfect way to wake up and kickstart my day and I found I was a lot more proactive in the morning because of this and loved discovering new places! Now the colder mornings are approaching I’m not sure if I will continue or replace this with something else but it definitely needs to wake me up, put me in a positive mindset and motivate me.

WhatsApp Image 2019-08-29 at 16.50.40 (1)Afternoon Teas – I found my affinity with this from visiting my mum twice throughout August and in my post Teas, Tease and Weddings. A weekly catch-up it’s clear this is my new addiction and I have no doubt you’ll be seeing a lot more posts filled with tasty treats in the coming months!

7-of-The-Ordinary-products-I-cant-live-without

The Ordinary – I have several products from The Ordinary and religiously implemented them into my skincare routine in August. I will be doing a dedicated post on the products I use and my thoughts and skincare progression soon so keep an eye out! But for the cost and how effective they are I am in love with this brand and highly recommend them!

91hKcX035dL._SL1500_Vitamin E Facial Mist – The bodyshop produces one of my favourite facial mists, it has a slight makeup setting function – not a strong one but I find its hydrating properties outweigh its setting features therefore it has been an obsession for a long time but this helped keep my hydrated throughout summer and has made it onto this months favourites.

mrs maiselThe Marvelous Mrs Maisel – I’ve heard everyone speak about this for a long time, and I finally gave it a watch! It is about a female comic in the 50s overcoming (personally) an incredibly relatable situation whilst trying to succeed in a mans world. It’s lighthearted, uplifting and motivational whilst also being funny and shot incredibly well. I’m loving Amazon Prime originals, honestly, more than Netflix originals at this point! Carnival row has just released so that will be my next go, let’s see if that makes it onto Septembers favourites!

Will you be checking out any of my August favourites? What have been some of your end of summer essentials? Let me know in the comments, i’d love to try out some suggestions!

First steps to Freedom

I’m 27 and up until now I have never truly been alone. I have never lived alone, never had to tackle problems on my own, and never made decisions all by myself. Acceptance is tough, but necessary, and I feel like now I realise I am alone. I have to keep telling myself it’s not a sad thing, I have friends, family, and a tonne of support, but I have to work on me now. So with that being said…

Tomorrow will be my first true day living alone. I’m nervous, excited and a sad all at the same time. I have had time to myself before and feel like I always get off-track around others, so it will be interesting to see what happens now everything is down to me. I’m excited to decorate and routine my life in a way only I want, but i’m also conscious that all responsibility now falls down to me too.

It will be a late night at work for me but I am determined no matter what time I finish to get home and prepare everything I need so that tomorrow feels like an entirely fresh start, and truly me, with no outside influences. I want to reorganise my front room and need a good clear out of my kitchen and bathroom. My bedroom is pretty much there but could do with a little declutter.

Tomorrows schedule is looking pretty packed as well. I plan to film a video of my first day living alone.

my Work Plan

Time. We never have enough of it do we.

I have many projects I want to start, and I felt like Three little things helped with that, but things are always overwhelming. Trying different things to see what works is the best way to keep up motivation, because not everything will work, and I need to learn to be ok with that. It’s ok if we have off-days, as long as we reach the destination in the end.

IMG_20190903_085038.jpg

I started reading a book my colleague had ‘The subtle art of not giving a f*ck”. After everything the title really resonated with me, and this morning when I laid in bed one quote in particular stood out to me:

“We have so much f*cking stuff and so many opportunities
that we don’t even know what to give a f*ck about anymore”

I felt this perfectly represented my feelings of being overwhelmed. In a world of so much opportunity it is easy to miss things, and the irony is that fear of missing out has actually made me miss so many years of opportunity.

It’s time to take that back, the fear of failure should not stop you from starting or trying anything, because really, the only failure is sitting there letting everything pass you by.

A Leap of Faith

Screenshot (35)**Midnight Ramblings**

Something I have wanted to do for a very long time has presented itself to me in recent days. I very much hate when people say they have ‘big news’ or ‘secret surprises’ however I am going to keep this opportunity quiet, for two reasons. One, because at the present moment, it is just a dream, one I am not sure I am going to take, but one I will definitely pursue as to not lose the opportunity again, and two, because I want this to be a completely subjective decision, not clouded by anyone else’s judgement or opinion. So this post may be vague, it may be infuriating, but I need to air out my thought process.

Imagine you had wanted to do something for years, different variants milling around in your brain for about 10 years, the concrete version for about 3. Now imagine you hadn’t done that because you was scared, scared of failure, scared of being alone, scared of being out of your depth. Furthermore you hadn’t because someone was holding you back. Now imagine you were free from that, you felt like you could now achieve and the person that had been holding you back had let you go. You’d be daft not to jump at the chance right?

Life is scary, but opportunities present themselves, and I can’t keep holding back for fear of jumping into the unknown, because sometimes, that is where the adventure lies. And if we aren’t looking for adventure, why are we here?

101 in 1001 : A New Beginning.

For a few years now I have had a list. A list of 101 things i’d like to achieve in 1001 days. It’s not a new concept, similar to a bucket list, but time manageable. I mean, realistically, this is probably better than a bucket list because every 3 years you make a new one and achieve way more.

Some of my tasks are big, some are small. I’ve tried to keep them relatively levelled so it’s not overwhelming or too costly, for example a big one I’d love to do is travel to Japan, Canada, Australia and more! These kinds of things I have omitted from this because it’s just not achievable in such a short amount of time.

I have from now, September 1st 2019 to May 29th 2022 to achieve all of these things!!!

So lets take a look…

1 v2.jpg2

Some of my goals have stipulations, or notes which were hard to fit on the checklist so I have a long-form document to keep tabs. For example the weekend away in a hut or yurt, I want to go completely off the grid, no internet or communication and try to spend time doing activities that don’t require electricity so no tv, games etc.

I will be documenting these adventures both here and on a brand new Youtube channel I will be premiering soon! I’m so excited to finally get the ball rolling on things that have been ticking past for years.

Let me know in the comments your top 3 things that would be on your 101 in 1001 list!
